Matsalen and Matbaren by Ilse Crawford
Designer Ilse Crawford has completed the interiors for two new restaurants at Grand Hotel Stockholm. The restaurants are Matsalen - a dining room - and Matbaren - a food bar and are run by Mathias Dahlgren. Matbaren is made in robust materials, such as wood panelling, tile and zinc. There are tables in natural wood, and Swedish pieces from the 1700s. There is a mix of Swedish, Scandinavian and global pieces, such as Pyra chairs by Mårten Cyren, lights by Jorn Utzon, and chairs by Vico Magistretti. The food bar and kitchen are a part of the room.
In Matsalen the atmosphere is more elegant and intimate. The door is a discreet entrance off the bar. There are Chesterfield sofas in velvet and details in golden metals.
The lighting is a mix of Swedish classics and chandeliers by Carlo Scarpa. In a nod to the history of the Grand Hotel, Josef Frank chairs have been rescued from around the hotel and revitalised in yellow leather. The tables were designed by Studioilse.
